Mariners Finish Sweep, Blowout Tigers Again

by @ 6:33 am. Filed under 1984 Tigers Championship Diary, Aurelio Lopez, Chet Lemon

May 27, 1984 Mariners 6, Tigers 1 (35-8)

Not a whole lot went right in this one. Dan Petry got shelled, giving up nine hits and four runs in four innings. Aurelio Lopez had his worst outing of the year as well. On top of all that, the Tigers had ten hits, but only managed to score one, on a solo shot by Chet Lemon.

This was the first three game losing streak of the season, and the first time the Tigers were swept. At this point, the Tigers next 40 games would result in a 20-20 record, a pretty long stretch of mediocrity for a team that was so good for the first quarter of a season.
